In the middle of Feria de Albacete, José Manuel Martínez, Managing Director of Eiffage Energía has given several interviews to radio stations. Speaking to COPE, José Manuel Martínez, a native of Albacete, talked about Eiffage Energía’s presence both worldwide and in the province of Albacete, in addition to some of the company’s most recent projects.
Eiffage Energía, a European construction group, has a global workforce of 65,000 employees and an annual turnover of over 15 billion euros. As a major European industrial group, its Spanish headquarters, which also cover part of its international activities, are located in Albacete and this year they celebrates their 15th anniversary.
In 2018 the Group marked 15 years since acquiring Electrosur XXI, as the leading company in the energy sector. Since that moment in 2003, the group has grown with the acquisition of new national business groups and Albacete has been home to its headquarters.
From its headquarters and eight subsidiaries, Eiffage Energía is characterised for carrying out a wide range of activities: comprehensive and industrial maintenance, electromedicine department, electrical and mechanical installations, civil works and construction, high voltage lines, transformer substations and renewable energies among many others. This last line of activity involves the greatest responsibility at global level, given that it is managed from Albacete and with local engineers.
In general, the company’s workforce has continued to grow despite the years hit by the crisis, and the company currently has 3,200 workers, with more than 850 in Albacete.
The future of energy must be renewable and will take off in part, with the help of political leaders. The evolution of clean energies is predicted to be progressive, since fossil fuels are likely to disappear at some point in the future. Currently «in Spain we have an important opportunity with the construction of 8,000 megawatts of new facilities, of which 5,000 MWh will be photovoltaic energy and about 3,000 MWh of wind energy«.
José Manuel Martínez points out that «in Castilla-La Mancha we export energy since we produce much more than what we consume in the region.» Therefore CLM is a “generator of surplus power” and an example of the use of renewables.
The Managing Director of Eiffage Energía also talked about Biomedical, the company’s new commercial brand, and its contribution to the world of medicine. The electromedicine department is responsible for maintenance of electromedical equipment and devices at major hospitals, clinics and health centres throughout Spain.
Finally, José Manuel Martínez explained the expansion of the facilities at the headquarters which are due to be completed by the end of this year and will house more than 250 workers. In this line, Martínez announced the celebration of the Eiffage Energía convention in Albacete on 17 October where 450 workers from the entire Group will be welcomed.
José Manuel also spoke to Onda Cero about the third equality plan to promote equal opportunities and work equality in the company where new actions are being implemented to incorporate women into the activities of this sector, which is predominantly male.
At EsRadio, José Manuel also stressed the creation of the drones department, and the company’s progress and positive results in occupational risk prevention. The company as achieved an 80% improvement in accident rates through continuous training, because “prevention succeeds when it starts to become part of the workers’ culture”.
